iOS gives apps no way to set a plain DNS server directly. Standard mode installs a local VPN profile that routes zero traffic and only publishes your chosen resolvers. Nothing is tunnelled anywhere, and no browsing data leaves your device. If you prefer no badge, use Encrypted mode with a DNS-over-HTTPS provider.

It lowers the time spent resolving names and can route you to a closer game edge server. It can't change the physical distance to a game server, so think of it as a few milliseconds plus better matchmaking routing — not a miracle.

No. Your country is inferred from the device time zone. The app requests no location permission at all.

Yes. Both the Standard and Encrypted profiles reconnect on demand across Wi-Fi and cellular until you turn them off.

Standard works with every server in the app and applies plain DNS via a local profile (shows the VPN badge). Encrypted uses DNS-over-HTTPS for the curated providers that support it, and shows no badge — but you must arm it once in iOS Settings → General → VPN, DNS & Device Management → DNS. The app shows a reminder until you do.

Tap the power button again, or go to the app's Settings → DNS profiles. "Turn DNS off" keeps the profile so re-enabling needs no prompt; "Remove DNS profiles" deletes it entirely and restores your network's default resolver.

No. Ads are optional and consent-gated. Watching a short ad is always opt-in and grants 24 hours ad-free; declining never affects your connection. Turning off "Share anonymous usage data" in Settings disables ads entirely.
